How to Wash Your Hands to Stop the Spread of Coronavirus

    by Dr. Anjali Butani

We have to stop the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). In this video, I show you how you can do your part.

I’m Dr. Anjali Butani and I’m a dermatologist.  Remember washing your hands properly is simple.  It's the easiest thing we can do to help our community at this time.

    First, wet your hands.

Then, take liquid or bar soap into your palms and make a good lather.

Take at least 20 seconds and spread the lather on your fingers and palms, the back of your hands, the web spaces between your fingers, and then under your fingernails.

This time is critical to remove the virus.

After this, rinse off in one direction.  Place your hands upside down. Let the water flow in one direction from the wrist to your fingers.

Now use your elbow to turn the faucet off. This way you don’t re-contaminate yourself.

Dry off with a clean paper towel.

If your hands are prone to drying out, apply a simple lotion or moisturizer immediately.

Proper hand washing along with social distancing is how we stop the spread.

Remember to DO THE FIVE to help stop coronavirus:

    1. HANDS - Wash them often

    2. ELBOW- Cough into it

    3. FACE - Don't touch it

    4. SPACE - Keep safe distance

    5. HOME - Stay if you can

All of us have to do our part.  Simple hand washing can save your life or your loved one’s life.

Please share this post, so your family, friends and community can learn how to wash their hands and limit the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

We will overcome this virus together. All of us play a critical and crucial role in stopping its spread.

Around the world, millions of health care workers, nurses, doctors and emergency medical first responders are putting their lives at risk for us, and my heart goes out to them.

The global scientific efforts of thousands of researchers in the medical, biotechnology and pharmaceutical communities is laser-focused on treating this pandemic. Their inventiveness will result in good news soon.

I have never been more proud of our doctors, nurses, and heath care workers.

Be well. Be safe. Be healthy.

We will get through this together.
